Atlas International Group Deliver And Supply 122 mm High Explosive Round With Full Charge For D-30, 2S-1.
The 122mm howitzer is one of the most famously powerful weapons in modern military history. It has scarcely left the theater of conflict since its inception in the late 1950s. But legendary artillery such as the D-30 and the 2S-1 can only be truly effective when they are paired with the right ammunition. If you need serious anti-tank and / or anti-personnel stopping power, you need an ammunition supply with high explosive capability.
HEAT or High Explosive Anti-Tank warheads can provide the stopping power to devastate even heavily armored enemy vehicles. These rounds use the Munroe effect to penetrate even thick armor with devastating precision.
The Munroe Effect
The Munroe effect (or the Neumann effect) is at the heart of the 122mm high explosive round’s superior stopping power and “fist to finger” penetration. It is named after Charles E. Munroe, who discovered it in 1888 while working as a civilian chemist at a U.S. Naval Torpedo Station. While similar principles had previously been used in mining and manufacture, it was Munroe’s work that made them a military mainstay. The principle maximizes the explosive power of the payload. These 122mm rounds with reduced and full charge are specifically designed to concentrate blast energy to a fixed point using a conical liner within the shell’s nose. This contains an air filled cavity, beneath which are the detonator and explosive payload. A Piezo-electric trigger sits within the nose. These elements all combine to create a focused force capable of penetrating steel armor potentially over 10 times thicker than the charge depth.
While these are famously known as HEAT, this is actually a misleading moniker as the shell relies on kinetic energy for its devastating stopping power. It does not burn or melt through steel armor.
Potential combat applications
The 122mm high explosive round with full charge is a traditionally anti-tank armament, its applications do not stop there. These rounds are sometimes used with coastal artillery for seaborn combat as well as anti-aircraft applications. This ammunition has also historically been used for;
- Demolishing enemy encampments.
- Disabling enemy personnel both in the field and in shelters.
- Disabling an enemy’s heavy artillery such as mortars.
- Breaching defensive wirings such as perimeter fences.
- Penetrating enemy bunkers.
- Allowing for safe passage through an enemy’s minefields.
As you can see, these rounds offer your forces enormous stopping power and precision and have an extremely diverse range of combat applications.
These 122mm rounds are manufactured by VMZ and use the RGM-2 / RGM-2M fuse. They have a meters per second muzzle velocity of 565 reduced / 690 full and an impressive maximum range of 15,300m.
122 mm high explosive rounds with full charge have never strayed far from the battlefield in over half a century of modern warfare, and for good reason. They combine prodigious stopping power with variable charge which offers enormous tactical versatility. Whether you want to obliterate your opponent’s artillery or disable their personnel in the field, these rounds will help you on the way to victory.
